Comfortable win for Blue Cats, important away victory for Black Panthers

Matchday 10 of the Women’s Championship concluded last night, with the league-leading Blue Cats cruising to an emphatic win against Dikefalos Geriou Angels, while the Black Panthers claimed a tough but crucial away victory over WNBA.

In Agios Dometios, the two-time champions Blue Cats fully justified their status as overwhelming favourites against the Dikefalos Geriou Angels, dismantling them with an imposing 72–27 scoreline. The 72 points scored by the “Blues” also mark the best offensive performance of the season, surpassing the 71 points posted by All’D Stars on opening night.

The team from Agios Dometios had no trouble asserting their dominance on the court, with the gap in quality between the two sides evident from the outset. As early as the first quarter, the Blue Cats opened up a +14 lead (24–10), which nearly doubled by halftime (42–15).

With the outcome effectively decided, both coaches rotated their line-ups in the second half, giving playing time to all available players, while every Blue Cats player managed to get on the scoresheet. The final 72–27 sealed the hosts’ 9th win of the season, a result that speaks for itself.

Athina Papagianni led the way for the winners with 16 points, followed by Koniali, Olympiou and Panagidou, who each added 10 points. For the Geri side, Zina Gartzolaki was the top scorer with 13 points, followed by Eirini Tsolia with 9.

A very important away win was also celebrated by the Black Panthers, who, despite facing stubborn resistance from a resilient WNBA, secured their 4th victory of the season with a 38–46 win. This result lifted them to 4th place in the standings, while they still have two games in hand compared to the three teams above them.

Loui Nikolaou’s team, playing with just six players and trailing midway through the third quarter, found the way to overturn the deficit and emerge victorious from a demanding venue.

The game at Apostolos Varnavas Lyceum was evenly balanced and kept spectators on edge. Throughout the first half, the two teams went basket for basket, ending the half tied at 21–21.

Early in the second half, the hosts—playing without their leading scorer Sofia Cheimonettou—managed to pull ahead by +6 (27–21) and later +5 (31–26), but could not hold on for long. By the end of the third quarter, the visitors had edged in front (31–33), extending the lead to +8 (32–40) midway through the fourth.

Despite WNBA’s efforts to mount a comeback, the Panthers remained composed and closed out the game. Stella Theodosiou was once again the MVP for the winners with 20 points, supported by Ana Ines Quesada with 15, while for the hosts Thea Theologou and Marianna Karachanna stood out with 12 and 10 points respectively.
