Hard-fought but extremely valuable win for All’D Stars against ETHA

The All’D Stars added another pink game sheet to their tally—their 7th of the season—as despite showing signs of self-destruction at times in last night’s clash against the ETHA Court Queens, they ultimately prevailed 31–42, strengthening their hold on 2nd place and extending their gap from 3rd to +3 points.

From the opening tip at Makedonitissa, Chrysi Themistokleous’ team showed they were the favourites and that, one way or another, they would find their way to another victory. They led 8–14 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the margin into double digits by halftime (13–23).

The picture changed dramatically in the second half, however, as the hosts gradually began finding the basket with much greater ease. Combined with a prolonged offensive blackout from the Larnaca side, ETHA slowly dragged the game onto their own terms and completed a full comeback.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Michalis Zakos’ team took the lead for the first time at 31–29, courtesy of a basket by Sixtine Lefeuvre. Unfortunately for the “Queens,” that proved to be their final field goal of the game, as what followed was a spell of complete shooting drought, with every ETHA attempt rattling off the rim.

At the same time, the All’D Stars snapped out of their lethargy, raised the tempo and, with consecutive baskets from open play, went on a decisive 13–0 run, sealing a hugely important 31–42 away victory.

Leading the scoring for the winners were Elena Kalli and Christina Michael with 13 and 12 points respectively, while for the hosts Ioanna Chandrioti and Sixtine Lefeuvre stood out with 10 and 8 points each.
