The Blue Cats secured their fifth consecutive win of the season last night, as they had little trouble overcoming WNBA, defeating them 54–37 and enjoying the solitude of the top spot while remaining unbeaten.
Athina Papagianni’s team lived up to expectations, made full use of home advantage and cruised to a comfortable victory. The “Cats” came out strong at the Agios Dometios Gymnasium, built a double-digit lead in the opening quarter (18–8) and extended it to 26–12 by halftime.
Marios Anaxagorou’s side tried to respond early in the second half and managed to close the gap to eight points (32–24) midway through the third quarter. However, the visitors’ comeback attempt did not have the desired continuation, as they appeared to run out of energy.
The hosts quickly regained control, once again pushing the margin beyond +20, with 54–37 being the final score that sealed the win for the Agios Dometios team.
Elena Ignatiou and Athina Papagianni were the main weapons for the Blue Cats, scoring 16 and 13 points respectively. For WNBA, Sofia Cheimonettou stood out with 10 points and 14 rebounds, supported by Theologou, Michael and Ioannou, who added 6 points each.
