EAK impressive, beat Splash Ballers and moved to the top

The Cyprus Sportswriters’ Union (EAK) made an impressive start to the Second Phase of the Nicosia Championship, as in the opening game of the Silver Division they defeated the Splash Ballers 91–63, at the same time climbing to the top of the standings.

Despite the large margin in the final score, the picture of the game was very different early on, as it was the visitors who started better, taking an 8-point lead (9–17) toward the end of the first quarter. As time went by, however, Voris Karagiannis’ team gradually found its rhythm and managed to take the lead by the end of the first half, going ahead 40–34.

The home team’s comeback continued in the second half, with their advantage constantly growing. In the final quarter the visitors ran out of energy and were unable to keep up with EAK’s pace, whose players were firing on all cylinders.

The final 91–63 score also came thanks to the home side’s offensive depth, as all nine players who were available scored, with Neofytou and Geromoschos hitting 20 points each, followed by Savvidis with 11 and Giannis with 10.

For Andreas Michael’s team, Michalis Stylianou and Andreas Iakovou stood out with 21 and 18 points respectively.
In the next round, EAK will host the UNIC Senior Eagles in a top-of-the-table clash, while the Splash Ballers face another very important home game against the Blue Cats.
