The Journalists’ Union (EAK) team did not struggle significantly to secure an away win in Engomi, defeating the Municipality of Nicosia (Dimos Lefkosias) 85-62 and securing their 6th game win sheet, which leaves them with open hopes for qualifying for the Gold Category.
The game at Engomi Gymnasium, which was played with only 11 players combined (6 from EAK – 5 from the Municipality), unfolded roughly as expected before the jump ball. Boris Karagiannis’s team had no particular difficulty asserting themselves and took a +16 lead by the end of the first half (42-26).
The qualitative superiority of the visitors, combined with the natural fatigue of the home team, who played without substitutions, was confirmed in the second half, with EAK’s lead not only being maintained but also widening, leading to the final score of 85-62.
Key Scorers:
- EAK: 5 out of the 6 players scored in double digits, led by George Neophytou with 20 points, followed by Geromoschos and Giannis with 19 each.
- Dimos Lefkosias: Nathaniel Piaseck stood out with 31 points, with Andreas Karaolis supporting with 13.
Classification Implications:
- EAK: Their interest is now focused on the two games tonight in the “Morfou” Region, as the results will determine whether they will continue in the Gold or the Silver Category. To get the ticket to the Gold Category, EAK needs the UNIC Senior Eagles to lose to Think Colour and, simultaneously, the Famagusta Ballers to lose to the Old Bulldogs. In the event of a three-way tie with UNIC and Famagusta, the Famagusta team will qualify based on point differential, while the Journalists will finish in 4th place (Silver Category).
- Municipality of Nicosia: With their 8th loss of the season, the team will definitively compete in the Bronze Category. They must await the completion of the matchday to find out their final ranking and the number of points they will start the Second Phase with.
