Trachoni secured the second ticket to the Grand Final of the Limassol Championship last night, after defeating Red Panda Moufflons 79–67 in the Semi-Final. They now move one step closer to competing for the championship title for the first time in their history.
Christodoulos Sofokleous’ side deservedly reached the win and qualification, as they held the lead throughout the game. Despite strong pressure from the visitors in the second half, they remained composed in the crucial moments and secured their place in next Monday’s Grand Final.
On the other hand, Daria Evdokimova’s team once again came close to producing a huge comeback (as they did in the Cup quarter-final against P&P). They erased an 18-point deficit that Trachoni had built, cutting the gap to a single basket midway through the fourth quarter (62–60). However, they ran out of energy in the closing stages and eventually suffered defeat.
Top scorer for the winners was Giannis Chatzimitsos with 23 points, supported by Alexei Sparivak with 15, while Kranopolski and Chrysostomou added 11 points each. For the Moufflons, the standout performers were Rihards Kronitis, Dmitrii Pavlov and Konstantin Evdokimov with 16, 15 and 14 points respectively.
The curtain will fall on the 3rd Limassol Championship this Monday with the two Finals taking place. At 19:30, Apollon Heat will face Red Panda Moufflons in the Third-Place Game, while at 21:00 the Grand Final will determine this season’s Champion between Trachoni and St. Nicholas Pistols.
Both matches will be held at Linopetra Lyceum and will be broadcast live on our Facebook page.
