Lawyers defeat Old Timers and advance to the Bronze Final

The Nicosia Bar Association has become the first finalist of the Bronze Category Grand Final, after defeating the Old Timers 51–43 last night and qualifying for the first time in their history for a Winter Basketball Championship Final.

Nikolas Konstantinou’s team deservedly secured the win and qualification in the semifinal clash with the Old Timers, as they held the lead for most of the game, although toward the end they briefly showed signs of losing control.

Leading 46–28 with seven minutes remaining, the hosts appeared to relax prematurely, allowing the visitors to take advantage. Within five minutes, the Old Timers cut the deficit to just one possession (46–43) with two minutes left, putting the game back on edge.

However, the comeback effort from Filip Bliznakov’s side fell just short. A basket by Stefanos Skordis followed by a crucial three-pointer from Nikos Tsakonas restored order and sealed the final 51–43 score.

Once again, Nikos Tsakonas was the standout performer for the winners with 19 points, supported by Ilias Lambidis with 9 and Dimitris Theodorou with 8. For the visitors, all seven players who appeared in the game scored, with Marios Ioannou, Manolis Koutsakis, and Giorgos Georgiou leading the way with 7 points each.

The Lawyers will now wait to learn their opponent for the Grand Final (16/03, English School, 20:30), which will be decided on Thursday following the second semifinal between Municipality of Nicosia and the Moufflons.

For the Old Timers, last night’s game marked the end of their Championship campaign. We would like to sincerely thank them for the excellent cooperation throughout the season and hope to see them back again next autumn, even stronger and more experienced.
