With very important away victories, Aris Limassol and All’D Stars continued their journey in the Women’s Championship, as they both escaped from Nicosia with road wins against Dikefalos Geriou Angels and Black Panthers respectively.
In the game that opened the 6th round, Aris had no trouble overcoming the resistance of Dikefalos Geriou Angels, winning 25–58, earning their second consecutive win of the season and climbing to 5th place in the standings. Zoi Agapiou’s team delivered one of their best performances of the season, taking a strong lead early and finishing with an emphatic victory.
The home team, on the other hand, fell short compared to their previous performances, stayed out of contention from the early stages and were unable to threaten at any point. Indicative of Aris’ dominance is the fact that they were already leading by 22 points (28–6) in the first half and also posted much better shooting percentages both from two-point and three-point range (despite playing away from home).
A huge performance for the winners came from Galateia Karagianni (25 points – 20 rebounds – 33 efficiency), with main support from Neva and Froehling, who scored 10 and 8 points respectively. From Alexis Solomonidis’ team, Eirini Tsolia stood out with 10 points, followed by Zina Gartzolaki with 6.
A return to winning ways was also recorded by All’D Stars, who defeated the Black Panthers 46–66 at the Agios Vasileios Gymnasium, moving to the top of the standings (though they have one more game played than Blue Cats, who play tomorrow). Chrysi Themistokleous’ team faced strong resistance from the Panthers, mainly in the first half, when the two teams stayed close throughout.
In the second half, however, the team from Larnaca stepped up their intensity, pressured the hosts on both defense and offense, and managed to build the safe lead they needed to secure the win. The +3 lead held by All’D Stars shortly before halftime (24–27) ballooned to +17 by the end of the third quarter (34–51), and from that point the outcome was decisively in favor of the visitors.
Almost all of the players who came off the bench for the winners scored (11 out of 12), with Katerina Georgiou, Elena Kalli and Andria Kirkini standing out with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively. For Louie Nicolaou’s team, Ana Ines Quesada delivered a big performance with 29 points, followed by Sokratous and Theodosiou with 6 and 5 points respectively.
