First win for Aris after defeating All’D Stars

The newly formed team of Aris celebrated its first and quite impressive victory in the Women’s Championship last night. Defying the odds, they handed All’D Stars their first defeat of the season with a 37-33 win.

The Limassol team delivered their best performance of the season so far, earning a well-deserved victory that is expected to give them a significant boost both in the standings and in morale moving forward.

The match, held at Agios Spyridonas Lyceum, started perfectly for the hosts, who took an 11-0 lead in the first quarter. During this period, the visitors suffered a total offensive blackout, scoring their first basket only at the start of the second period.

As time went on, Chrysis Themistokleous’s team gradually found their rhythm, but Aris maintained a double-digit lead (reaching as high as +16 at one point) until the middle of the third quarter.

The Larnaca-based team, however, had not had their last word. Starting late in the third quarter, they launched a sustained comeback, gradually chipping away at the lead. With a three-pointer by Kirkini two minutes before the end, the difference was reduced to just one point (34-33)!

In the final stages of the game, Zoe Agapiou’s players showed more composure during critical free throws (Antoniou made 1/2 and Karagianni 2/2). In contrast, All’D Stars missed all their crucial shots in the final seconds (Kirkini 0/2 free throws, Pouri 0/2 two-pointers), resulting in the win going to Limassol and sparking celebrations for the Aris team.

For the winners, Zoe Agapiou and Tereza Antoniou stood out with 11 and 10 points respectively. For the visitors, Elena Kalli scored 12 points and Arianna Pittakou added 8.
