Clear prospects of distinction for this year’s EAK

One team that has already given clear signs in this year’s championship and which absolutely has all the prerequisites to pursue a leading course — and even at a higher level than last season — is, of course, the team of the Union of Cypriot Sports Journalists (EAK).

The team of Vori Karagiannis already in the first three matchdays counts two wins (against UNIC Senior Eagles and Old Timers) and one defeat (from P&P), while also maintaining very good statistical data (averaging 63 points scored and 46 conceded). Even the loss in the second round against P&P came in the final phases of the game and could have been avoided with just a little more focus.

Probably the most important element, however, that shows that this year EAK can aim higher, is the clearly greater depth in its roster — an element that it lacked last year, especially in some crucial games towards the end of the season.

The additions of Alexandros Geromoschos, Giorgos Konstantinou and Skevos Antoniou, in combination with the very good roster that already existed from last year (Neophytou, Loizidis, Dudarevs, Savvidis, Iosifidis etc.), and also the accumulated coaching experience of coach Vori Karagiannis, have created a very promising group.

Very critical for the Sports Journalists will be the games with Think Colour in the upcoming matchday, as well as that of the 6th matchday against Famagusta Ballers — both at home. From the outcome of these particular matches it will become clear whether the team is in a position to contest a place in the Gold Category, which is also its ultimate goal.

Of course, a necessary pre-condition is that they do not stumble in the remaining games, in which they are logically the favourites, since the history of this championship shows that the possibility of some surprise should not be considered unlikely. In any case, the ball is in the court (or rather in the hands) of EAK’s players to show on the court how high they can reach this year.
