The Black Panthers celebrated their 5th victory in this year’s Women’s Championship last night, defeating Dikefalos Geriou Angels at home with a score of 48–34. They now turn their attention to the upcoming play-offs, where they will face Aris Limassol.
The team of Loui Nicolaou faced strong resistance from their opponents, particularly in the first half and early in the second, during which the Angels were either leading or within close range. From the middle of the third quarter onwards, however, the engines of Alexandros Solomonides’ side effectively stalled, as they scored only 4 points from the 32–30 mark in the 26th minute until the end of the game.
The offensive drought of the visitors in the second half, combined with the unstoppable performance of Stella Theodosiou on the other end, ultimately secured the win for the home side, who claimed their 5th victory more comfortably than the early stages of the game had suggested.
The undisputed MVP of the match was Stella Theodosiou, who delivered an outstanding performance with 30 points (along with 4 assists, 12 steals, 1 block, 4 rebounds and an efficiency rating of 37). Key support came from Natasa Siaka and Marina Andreou, who added 6 points each. For the visitors, Marcia Trillidou and Zina Gartzolaki stood out, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.
Based on last night’s result, and regardless of Friday’s outcomes, the Black Panthers will finish in 5th place and the Angels in 6th. This means that in the play-offs they will face Aris Limassol and ETHA Court Queens respectively.
