The impressive run of the Blue Cats in the Second Phase of the Championship continued last night, as they defeated the UNIC Senior Eagles 60–46, securing 4th place in the standings and booking their ticket to next week’s Silver Category Final-4.
The team from Agios Dometios is the only side, along with EAK (whom they also defeated), to have suffered just one loss in the Second Phase, and they effectively rewarded their near-flawless run in the Silver Category with this crucial victory over UNIC.
The hosts were the better side throughout the game at the Agios Dometios Gym, starting strongly, taking control of the lead early on, and ultimately celebrating a very important win thanks to their home-court advantage and stronger motivation.
At the end of the first quarter, the Agios Dometios side led 21–11, while by halftime the margin had grown to +17 (39–22). The visitors attempted to get back into the game early in the second half, slightly reducing the deficit, but the hosts soon restored order and comfortably closed out the game 60–46.
Top performers for the winners were Loukas Chatzigeorgiou and Christos Philippou, who scored 14 and 12 points respectively. For the UNIC Senior Eagles, Giorgos Zavos and Alekos Papadopoulos stood out with 14 and 11 points.
In the Semifinals, the Blue Cats will face EAK next Wednesday at A’ Primary School of Agios Dometios at 20:30. Meanwhile, the UNIC Senior Eagles will take on First Shoot APOPAL on Monday at 20:45 at the Agios Dometios Indoor Hall.
Both matches will be single-elimination games, with the winners advancing to the Grand Final.
