The big Nicosia–Limassol clash (Trachoni vs PN99) live on Friday

The upcoming week will be Cup Week, with 16 teams entering the battle for a place in the Quarterfinals. Interest is steadily building, especially in terms of the intercity rivalry between teams from Nicosia and Limassol, as the week’s schedule includes three Nicosia–Limassol matchups.

The game that unquestionably draws the most attention will be the one taking place on Friday at the Trachoni Gymnasium, between the local side Trachoni BC and two-time Nicosia champions PN99.

It is worth noting that Trachoni remain unbeaten so far in this season’s Limassol Championship (8 wins in 8 games), while PN99 have suffered only two defeats in 14 games in the Nicosia Championship this season.

PN99 were also the first Nicosia-based team of the Winter Championship to face a Limassol side in an official match, when they lost to the then Limassol champions Limassol Pistols in the 2023–2024 Super Cup, a game held at the Zakaki Gymnasium. In last season’s Super Cup, however, they defeated the reigning Limassol champions Arthouros in a match played at the English School.

It will be particularly interesting to see whether, in their second trip to Limassol, PN99 will manage to claim the win this time or bow out of the competition early. It is also recalled that in the First Phase of this year’s Cup, across four matches between teams from the two cities, Nicosia recorded three wins, while Limassol claimed one.

The Trachoni vs PN99 clash will be played on Friday at the Trachoni Gymnasium, will tip off at 20:30, and will be broadcast live on our Facebook page, with commentary by Dimitris Stylianou.
