Hard-fought but extremely valuable wins for EAK and Blue Cats

EAK and the Blue Cats emerged victorious in last night’s Silver Division thrillers, defeating KEP–Dikefalos Geriou and the Nicosia Wizards respectively in highly competitive games, further strengthening their positions in the top four of the standings.

In the earlier matchup, the Blue Cats snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against the Nicosia Wizards. Despite trailing for most of the game, they turned the tables in the closing moments, claiming their fourth consecutive win in the Silver Division with a 45–43 victory.

With less than a minute remaining, the visitors were leading 40–43 and appeared to have the momentum on their side. However, a crucial three-pointer by Michalis Kellas, followed by a basket in the final seconds by Giorgos Achilleos, completed the dramatic comeback for the “Cats” of Agios Dometios.

Top scorer for the winners was Michalis Kellas with 10 points, followed by Stavros Charalambidis with 8. For the visitors, Angelos Michaelidis scored 14 points, with Giannis Ioannou adding 9.

With this win, the Blue Cats now hold the head-to-head advantage over the Wizards and significantly increase their chances of staying in one of the privileged top-four positions, a battle that is shaping up mainly between these two teams and First Shoot APOPAL.

In the second thriller of the night, EAK had to dig deep but managed to escape with a road win from Geri, narrowly defeating local side KEP–Dikefalos 53–55, while maintaining both their top position and unbeaten record in the Silver Division.

The game was evenly balanced for most of its duration, with EAK usually holding a slight lead and KEP staying right on their heels. The outcome was ultimately decided in the final seconds, when the hosts missed two free throws with the score at 53–54, and the visitors showed greater composure. Panagiotis Panagiotou sealed the win from the free-throw line, making it 53–55.

Leading scorer for the winners was Alexandros Geromoschos with 13 points, followed by Konstantinou and Gianni with 10 points each. For the hosts, Vasilis Anastasopoulos carried most of the scoring load with 23 points, supported by Iosifidis with 10 and Varzakakos with 7.

With this victory, EAK has all but secured first place in the Silver Division standings, barring any dramatic turn of events, while KEP–Dikefalos has now lost any remaining mathematical chances of finishing in the top four.
