The All’D Stars returned to winning ways last night, as despite facing strong resistance from the Dikefalos Geriou Angels, they eventually got the job done, winning 30–42 and climbing back up to 2nd place in the Women’s Championship standings.
Chrysis Themistokleous’ team, following last round’s defeat in the derby against the Blue Cats, managed this time to leave with the road win, earning a relatively hard-fought but deserved victory against the Angels, who caused significant problems especially in the first half.
The game at the Falcon Indoor Hall saw the two teams go neck and neck throughout the opening half, with the visitors holding a narrow 18–19 lead at the break, setting the stage for a tightly contested derby.
A prolonged spell of offensive drought by the hosts at the start of the second half allowed the All’D Stars to open up a double-digit lead for the first time (20–30), which appeared to give them a firm advantage.
However, Alexandros Solomonidis’ team was not done yet and managed to cut the deficit to four points (28–32) at the start of the final quarter, looking capable of a full comeback. At that point, though, experience and greater depth made the difference for the team from Larnaca. A dagger three-pointer by Christina Michael, followed by two consecutive baskets by Elena Kalli, pushed the lead back into double figures and ultimately secured the fifth win of the season for the All’D Stars.
The MVP for the visitors was once again Elena Kalli, who posted 16 points and 17 rebounds, with Christina Michael providing key support with 7 points. For the home team, Zina Gartzolaki and Eirini Tsolia stood out, scoring 11 and 8 points respectively.
