More than three months before the big tip-off, the heartbeat of Greek and Cypriot amateur basketball is already beating strongly in Cyprus.
In three and a half months, from May 1 to May 3, 2026, the Municipality of Paralimni will become the center of Panhellenic attention, hosting the 12th Panhellenic Veterans and Former Players Basketball Championship—a landmark event dedicated to the history, timeless value, and inexhaustible passion for the sport. The championship is co-organized by the Cyprus Winter Basketball Championship and the Municipality of Paralimni.
Preparations are already in full swing. Delegations of amateur male and female athletes from every corner of Greece and Cyprus are being enthusiastically organized to take part in this great celebration of basketball. Teams are preparing to travel from Athens, Thessaloniki, Piraeus, Sparta, Komotini, Xanthi, Larissa, Volos, Veria, Kavala, Trikala, Karditsa, Kozani, Heraklion, Agrinio and Lasithi, while teams from the Cyprus Winter Championship will also participate from Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Famagusta, underlining the all-Cyprus character of the event.
Many delegations have already proceeded with hotel reservations in the Municipality of Paralimni and the issuance of airline tickets, confirming the enormous interest generated by the championship. Responsibility for the organization and execution lies with the Cyprus Winter Basketball Championship, in cooperation and co-organization with the Municipality of Paralimni, through a specially established Organizing Committee that is working intensively and methodically to ensure that the 12th Panhellenic Championship becomes a point of reference for the institution.
Supporting the effort are an Advisory and Disciplinary Committee, experienced professionals from the basketball community, volunteers and partners, all forming a strong organizational structure with the goal of delivering a well-organized, safe and high-quality event worthy of expectations.
The games will be held in six indoor arenas in the wider Paralimni area, featuring men’s age categories from 35+ to 70+ and a women’s 35+ category, in accordance with FIMBA regulations. The three-day competition will be complemented by official events, a technical meeting, social activities and the official gala dinner, highlighting the festive, unifying and international character of the championship.
The 12th Panhellenic Veterans and Former Players Championship is not just a sporting event. It is a living meeting of memory and continuity, a tribute to the timeless love for basketball—a three-day celebration where passion for the game, respect and teamwork meet healthy competition under the Cypriot sun.
