The WNBA team secured its first win (pink sheet) of the season, overcoming the resistance of the fighting Aris Limassol in the newcomer’s derby with a score of 41-27, and simultaneously climbing to 5th place in the standings.
Yesterday’s match at Apostolos Varnavas High School started with both teams keeping pace in the beginning, but from the 2nd quarter onwards, the home team gradually took the lead, built a safe difference, which, despite small fluctuations, they managed to maintain until the end.
Marios Anaxagorou’s team, despite the difficulties it faced due to the absence of some key players, not only appeared battle-ready on the court but ultimately achieved a fair victory, which will help them improve both in terms of standings and morale for the rest of the season.
On the other hand, the Limassol team, which was deprived of the services of the injured Elena Antoniou for yet another game, started the game dynamically by leading early, managed to stay close in the score for quite some time, but a prolonged offensive blackout in the 4th quarter cost them, resulting in their 3rd defeat of the season.
The MVP of the match was Sofia Cheimonettou, who added another double-double to her record with 15 points and 13 rebounds, with Marianna Karahanna as her main supporter with 9 points. From Zoe Agapiou’s team, Tereza Antoniou stood out with 7 points and Maria Tzamali with 6.
In the next matchday, which will be the last before the Christmas holidays, WNBA will host the Dikefalos Geriou Angels, while Aris will host the All’D Stars in Limassol.
