The Women’s Championship continued last night with important away victories for the Blue Cats and the ETHA Court Queens, currently in its 4th matchday.
The reigning champions (Blue Cats) swept through the Agios Vasileios Gymnasium, defeating the Black Panthers with a score of 29-54, earning their 4th consecutive win and taking sole possession of the top spot, as the All’D Stars have a bye this week. The team from Agios Dometios comfortably added another victory, having already built a secure lead of nearly +20 by the end of the first half. In the second half, the Panthers attempted a comeback to get back into contention, but the Blue Cats restored order in the 4th quarter.
The top performers for the visitors, who played without Athina Papagianni, were Elena Ignatiou (15 pts.), Constantina Koniali (10 pts.), and Dimitra Costa (9 pts.). For the home team, the MVP was Styliani Theodosiou with 15 points, with Ana Ines being her main support with 6.
In the other match of the evening, the ETHA team secured an away win against the Dikefalos Gerios Angels with a score of 32-39, but had to fight tooth and nail for their 2nd victory of the season. The game at Falcon became a thriller, as despite a good start by Michalis Zakos’s team, the Angels did not give up and came close to achieving a major comeback, cutting the lead to a single basket (30-32) with two minutes left.
However, the MVP of the match, Natia Athanasiou, with 4 consecutive three-pointers, managed to keep the Queens upright. They not only withstood the pressure from the hosts but also secured the valuable victory in the end. Besides Athanasiou (16 pts.), Ingrid Akathioti also made a valuable contribution for the visitors with 9 points. From Alexis Solomonides’ team, which put in its best performance of the season, Zina Gartzolaki (9 pts.), Irini Tsolia (8 pts.), and Stavri Christodoulou (7 pts.) stood out.
