The predictions were confirmed in yesterday’s matches of the penultimate matchday of the Nicosia Championship, with PN99 and the UNIC Senior Eagles achieving comfortable victories against the Nicosia Bar Association and the Old Timers, respectively.
Last year’s champions had no trouble overcoming the resistance of the Lawyers, prevailing 84-53 and earning their 7th win of the season, which temporarily placed them at the top of the “Kyrenia” Region standings.
Alexis Georgiadis’ team reached their usual high standards in yesterday’s game, taking a strong lead early on and maintaining it until the end. Four PN99 players scored in double digits (Prokopiou 19, Toumazou 14, Petsas 12 & Paschali 10), while almost all the others also contributed to the scoring.
On the other hand, the Nicosia Bar Association team, spearheaded by Lampidis and Tsakonas (19 points each), tried to put up a strong resistance, but the difficulty of the match was too high, resulting in their 7th loss of the season.
A similar scenario unfolded at the Ayios Dometios Indoor Arena shortly after, with the UNIC Senior Eagles having a quiet evening against the Old Timers, prevailing 85-44.
The University of Nicosia team, with excellent nights primarily from Teoulidis and Papadopoulos (21 points each) and secondarily from Fanou (12 pts), Kouzapas (11 pts), and Peter (10 pts), secured their 6th win of the season without much difficulty.
The Old Timers tried to challenge the outcome, but the difference in power was such that it did not prevent the loss in the end. For the Timers, Giannos Sophocleous and Stefanos Kyprianou stood out with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
