Great away win for Trachoni over St. Nicholas Pistols

Trachoni got off to a good start in the new Limassol Championship, making a strong statement at Ayios Nikolaos High School by defeating the St. Nicholas Pistols 59-81, showing early on that they will have a leading role this season as well.

Christodoulos Sophocleous’ team, which already showed very good potential last year, along with the summer additions to its roster, indicates that it has the makings to go even higher in this year’s Championship.

On the other hand, the Pistols team may not have started the new Championship with the best omens or as they would have hoped, but a loss in the premiere is certainly not the end of the world.

The fact is that George Angonas’ team clearly has much room for improvement, as it possesses a very good roster, also strengthened compared to last year, which may need some time to gain the required cohesion.

The top performers for the winners in yesterday’s game were the usual suspects Hadjimitsos and Kranopolski with 17 and 15 points, respectively, while for the hosts, the newly acquired Shirkin and the celebrant (yesterday) Triantafyllou stood out with 20 and 17 points, respectively.

Next week, the Pistols will play at their shared home court against the Moufflons, while Trachoni will host last year’s Champion, Arthouros.
