Την 7η νίκη της στο Πρωτάθλημα Λεμεσού πέτυχε χθες βράδυ η ομάδα της Omega, η οποία κέρδισε στο ντέρμπι της 2ης θέσης την Apollon Heat με 85-70 και πλέον οι δύο ομάδες ανανέωσαν το ραντεβού τους στα Ημιτελικά, δεδομένου ότι κατέλαβαν αντίστοιχα την 2η και 3η θέση στην τελική κατάταξη. Για την ομάδα της Apollon Heat, παρότι για αρκετό διάστημα ήταν πολύ κοντά στο σκορ και θα μπορούσε να έπαιρνε αυτή το ροζ φύλλο αγώνος, τελικά δεν αποφεύχθηκε η 4η φετινή ήττα, η οποία έτσι κι αλλιώς δεν θα άλλαζε κάτι σε σχέση με τον αντίπαλό της στα πλέι-οφ.
Ο αγώνας χθες βράδυ στο 3ο Λύκειο Αγίου Ιωάννη, παρότι ουσιαστικά δεν θα έκρινε κάτι ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό σε σχέση με την επόμενη φάση της διοργάνωσης, εντούτοις είχε αρκετό ενδιαφέρον και εξελίχθηκε σε ντέρμπι το οποίο κρίθηκε στα τελευταία στάδιά του. Στο πρώτο δεκάλεπτο οι γηπεδούχοι πήραν ελαφρύ προβάδισμα με 27-25, στη 2η όμως περίοδο οι φιλοξενούμενοι μπήκαν αυτοί μπροστά στο σκορ προηγούμενοι με 35-40.
Στο ξεκίνημα της επανάληψης όμως το προβάδισμα άλλαξε και πάλι κάτοχο, με την Omega να ξαναπαίρνει τα ηνία με 57-55 στο τέλος της 3ης περιόδου. Μέχρι και 5 λεπτά περίπου πριν το τέλος του αγώνα, οι 2 ομάδες συμβάδιζαν πλήρως στο σκορ (63-62 στο 34′). Από εκείνο το σημείο και μετά όμως οι παίκτες του Andrei Repnikov έτρεξαν ένα δυνατό σερί 22-8, το οποίο έμελλε να καθορίσει και τον τελικό νικητή.
Κορυφαίος από τους νικητές ήταν ο Vladimir Golenkov με 24 πόντους με βασικούς συμπαραστάτες τον Dmitriy Nefedchenko με 22 και τον Andrei Shirkin με 20. Από τους φιλοξενούμενους ξεχώρισε ο Viacheslav Titov με 23 πόντους και τον ακολούθησαν ο Maxim Nekhai με 11 και οι Ivonin και Bulankin με 9 έκαστος. Στα Ημιτελικά οι 2 ομάδες θα βρεθούν ξανά αντιμέτωπες, σε αγώνα που θα διεξαχθεί στο ίδιο γήπεδο στις 3 Απριλίου και θα αρχίσει στις 20:30.
Another victory solidifies Omega’s position as 2nd against Apollon Heat
Last night, Omega achieved their 7th victory in the Limassol League by defeating Apollon Heat, their rival for the 2nd position, with a score of 85-70. Consequently, both teams have secured their spots in the semi-finals, as they finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the final standings. Despite Apollon Heat’s close score throughout the game and the possibility of turning the tables, they suffered their 4th defeat of the season, which wouldn’t have altered their playoff opponent regardless.
The game took place last night at the 3rd Gymnasium of Agios Ioannis. While it didn’t hold significant importance for the next phase of the tournament, it was an intriguing encounter that turned into a close contest, ultimately decided in the final stages. The home team took a slight lead in the first quarter with 27-25, but the visitors took control in the second quarter, leading 35-40.
However, the lead changed hands again at the start of the second half, with Omega reclaiming the lead at 57-55 by the end of the third quarter. With about 5 minutes remaining in the game, the two teams were neck and neck (63-62 at 34′). From that point onwards, Andrei Repnikov’s players embarked on a strong 22-8 run, which determined the eventual winner.
Vladimir Golenkov was the standout performer for the winners with 24 points, supported by Dmitriy Nefedchenko with 22 and Andrei Shirkin with 20. For the visitors, Viacheslav Titov stood out with 23 points, followed by Maxim Nekhai with 11, and Ivonin and Bulankin with 9 each. The two teams will meet again in the semi-finals on April 3rd, at the same venue, starting at 20:30.
